The Band

MONSTROUS LOW END GROOVE... This is the patented heavy rock sound of Witchazel...

  • The Heaviness of Black Sabbath...
  • The Harmonies of Alice in Chains...
  • The Groove of Soundgarden...
  • The Soul of Hendrix...

Witchazel has drawn many comparisons since its inception in 1997, but through it all, one thing has remained constant: a true original rock band ever seeking massive groove.

Witchazel has garnered airplay on FM radio in 3 different countries without label or management representation. Witchazel songs from two different demos appear with some regularity on Lexington stations WXZZ, WKQQ, and WRFL, as well as Louisville's WTFX, and WAIF in Cincinnati.

"This band has a lot of potential," says Freakdaddy, morning radio personality on Lexington's WXZZ, Z103FM. "They've really got a good sound...definitely worth checking these guys out."

Band founders Dave Ryles (guitar/vocals) and Paco(bass) fulfilled a vision, which began in 1994, when they and drummer Dan Barkman added Lath Motley(lead vocals) to an alreadystrong Witchazel trio. Witchazel had already made a name for itself in the central Kentucky area as a power trio over the previous two years, thundering its groove across Kentucky and Ohio and scattering shows from Cleveland to Nashville. Lath, a longtime friend of the band, entered in October 1999, adding another dimension to the band.

After a couple of months of tightening up the new 4-piece format with several live performances including sets at Sudsy Malone's in Cincinnati and at Sadie Rene's in North Canton, OH, this reinvented groove machine headed back to Campbell Productions studios for a new 3-song demo.

Focus in the early part of 2000 has been on putting together new promotional kits and merchandise. The on-again, off-again CD project is once again underway and slated for completion sometime in summer 2000 and booking has been cut back to a couple of shows a month in order to concentrate on these goals. Meanwhile, the band tries to stay on top of demo requests ordered via the band's official homepage (odust.com/witchazel) as Witchazel merchandise has been ordered from and sent to several different countries on 5 continents. This heavy groove machine eagerly anticipates hitting the road late in the Summer to promote the CD and expose itself to the world.
