As we enter the final month of the millennium Witchazel announces a new plan for the new year. The band has dropped their label "Broken Records" in favor of "Very Angry Records (VAR)".
This comes as a surprise, as the band is in the middle of recording its virgin release, Bonescraper.
Witchazel signed with Broken Records in early '98, as a vehicle to distribute its three song demo. The relationship seemed to be working. Hundreds of copies of the band's work were distributed to fans at shows in the early history of the then three piece. Many of these demos are still in circulation, despite the heavy distibution of the band's latest version.
In early '99, Witchazel released a second demo (updated to feature Dan Barkman as the new drummer). "I don't feel the label (Broken Records) was really behind us on this one." says Dave Ryles.
Now the band plans a release of a new demo and an EP (to feature the latest line up addition, Lath Motley) and wants more support from its label. Just 60 days ago Very Angry Records stepped in and started promoting the previous release. This gained the band notable publicity in several countries, as well as airplay in Canada.
"When we first started talking about switching labels, it was a toss up between Very Angry Records and Really, Really Pissed Off Records. We found Very Angry Records much more easy going and easier to work with than the latter." says Lath Motley, current Witchazel frontman.
As Witchazel popularity starts to snowball world-wide VAR is planning a European publicity campaign to birth the band into the new millennium. Talks have already begun with Melodic Hard Rock Magazine (in the UK) and organizers if an annual metal festival held in Amsterdam.
Wether or not the world is ready for Witchazel seems to be pointless, for Witchazel is arming itself for World Domination!
